    UK Pay Growth Rises As Employers Brace For Brexit

    UK total pay growth sustained its strong momentum in the three months to February, growing at the fastest pace in over a decade, as employers ramped-up hiring to a fresh record high, ahead of a possibly chaotic Brexit. The total pay grew 3.5 percent year-on-year in the three months to February, same as in December and January, preliminary data from the Office for National Statistics showed.

    UK Public Borrowing Lowest In 17 Years

    UK Inflation Moves To 2% Target

    UK inflation slowed to the central bank target in May, thanks to lower costs for air travel and falling car prices, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. Consumer price inflation hit the Bank of England's target of 2 percent in May versus 2.1 percent in April. The rate also matched economists' expectations.

    The British Chancellor is about to flood the UK market with millions of 50p coins commemorating the UK leaving the EU on October 31st, as are the current plans of the government.

    Chancellor Sajid Javid has inquired whether it would be possible to mint the coins in time for Brexit.

    The former Chancellor Philip Hammond, who served with Theresa May, proposed a more expensive collectors version of a Brexit coin, but Mr Javid insists on mass circulation, obviously taking on the view that Brexit is for everyone and not for a selected few.

    UK Budget Balance Posts Small Surplus In July

    The UK budget balance showed a small surplus in July, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. Public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks was in GBP 1.3 billion surplus in July. This was smaller by GBP 2.2 billion from July 2018 and also remained below economists' forecast of GBP 2.7 billion.

    UK Inflation At 32-Month Low

    UK consumer price inflation eased to a 32-month low in August as computer games and clothing turned cheaper, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. Consumer price inflation eased to 1.7 percent from 2.1 percent in July. The rate was forecast to ease moderately to 1.9 percent. This was the lowest rate since December 2016 and well below the central bank's 2 percent target.
