From i have observed the CCI histogram indicator, CCI_nuf_v4 here also quite interesting for filtering trade for example.

I believe it is possible to filter sideway market with it using neutral buffer Up/Dn.

Many years ago i'm partnering with another trader creating ichimoku EA and use CCI as filter trade, i mean use CCI to initial a trade, in line with ichimoku buy/sell signal. At that time we used CCI because CCI act as momentum and price leading indicator, as its doesn't lagged behind. Some Woodie's patterns also use such as TL break, ghost trade and so on.

Here is the example chart that combine Ichimoku & CCI. I don't trade much on lower time frame but my trade partner using Ichimoku with default setting together with CCI 14 he's trading very well.
