Apple Releases First Big Software Update for iOS 7




Apple on Monday released its first major update for iOS 7, its latest operating system for iPhones and iPads. The upgrade improves reliability of the fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5S and makes adjustments to Siri, among many other changes.

SEC Said to Probe Whether Forex Rigging Distorted Options

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating whether currency traders at the world’s biggest banks distorted prices for options and exchange-traded funds by rigging benchmark foreign-exchange rates, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

The SEC’s inquiry adds to European and U.S. regulatory probes of possible manipulation in currency markets. The SEC’s investigation is in the early stages, said the people, who asked not to be named because the matter isn’t public. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which regulates foreign-exchange derivatives, is also investigating possible manipulation, another person said.

New software catches 'spying' apps

Computer scientists have developed a new software that shows whether an app has accessed private data to spy on the user.

Apps on web-enabled mobile devices can be used to spy on their users, so researchers from the Saarland University in Germany developed the new software to track malicious activity by an app.

Gold Rises to 3-Month High on Haven Demand as Silver Extends Run

Gold advanced to the highest level in more than three months as speculation the U.S. economic recovery will slow spurred demand for a haven.

Bullion climbed 4.1 percent last week, the most since the period ended Aug. 16. U.S. factory production unexpectedly declined in January by the most since May 2009, according to a report released on Feb. 14. Gold will establish a new range above $1,300 an ounce and U.S. investors are becoming friendlier to the metal, UBS AG said in a report today.

Bullion tumbled the most since 1981 last year after some investors lost faith in the metal as a store of value and as U.S. policy makers signaled they will slow stimulus.

According to a memo on Mt. Gox's website, "In order for our team to resolve the withdrawal issue it is necessary for a [temporary] pause on all withdrawal requests to obtain a clear technical view of the current processes. We apologize for the sudden short notice."
