    Consumer Sentiment Index Dips

    Consumer attitudes cooled slightly by the end of June compared to where they stood in the middle of the month. This according to the results of a highly influential survey of consumer sentiment released on Friday. The results were below what economists had expected. Results of a survey conducted by the University of Michigan showed that its consumer sentiment index came in at 93.5 for June.

    U.S. Consumer Confidence Improves Much More Than Expected

    Consumer confidence in the U.S. improved by much more than expected in the month of June, the Conference Board revealed in a report on Tuesday. The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index jumped to 98.0 in June from a downwardly revised 92.4 in May.

    While the Commerce Department released a report on Wednesday showing a slightly smaller than expected increase in U.S. personal income in the month of May, the report also said personal spending climbed in line with economist estimates.

    U.S. Construction Spending Unexpectedly Decreases In May

    Construction spending in the U.S. unexpectedly decreased in the month of May, according to a report released by the Commerce Department on Friday. The report said construction spending slid 0.8 percent to an annual rate of $1.143 trillion in May from the revised April estimate of $1.152 trillion.

    New orders for U.S. manufactured goods pulled back in line with estimates in the month of May, the Commerce Department revealed in a report released on Tuesday. The report said factory orders fell by 1.0 percent in May following a 1.8 percent jump in April.

    U.S. Service Sector Index Jumps To Seven-Month High In June

    Economic activity in the U.S. service sector grew faster than expected in the month of June, the Institute for Supply Management revealed in a report released on Wednesday. The ISM said its non-manufacturing index jumped to 56.5 in June from 52.9 in May.
