    U.S. Consumer Confidence Shows Slight Deterioration

    Consumer confidence in the U.S. showed a slight deterioration in the month of August, according to a report released by the Conference Board on Tuesday. The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index edged down to 135.1 in August after surging up to 135.8 in July. Economists had expected the index to show a much more substantial decrease to 130.0.

    Global Economy Forecast

    The global economy is growing moderately, but that’s a great deal better than news headlines imply. World GDP is likely to expand by 2.8 percent his year, inflation adjusted. That’s down from 3.4 percent two years ago, but still decent growth.

    The French cyber police has intercepted and neutralized a Monero minimum virus that has infected over 850 000 Windows operating PCs in some 100 countries, but more predominantly in Central and South America.

    The French authorities had acted on a signal that a server based in Paris is distributing a virus called Retadup.

    The botnet, which was run from France, is estimated to have made millions of euro since 2016. The people behind it however are still at large.

    Fed Cuts Rates As Expected But Leaves Outlook Murky

    After lowering interest rates for the first time in over a decade in late July, the Federal Reserve announced another interest rate cut following a two-day monetary policy meeting that ended on Wednesday. The Fed revealed its widely expected decision to cut rates by another 25 basis points, lowering the target range for the federal funds rate to 1-3/4 to 2 percent.

    The German government delivered another blow to Libra - according to its new strategy the cabinet in Berlin stated that while the block chain technology holds great potential, it should not be used to develop private forms of money.

    “A core element of state sovereignty is the issuance of a currency, we will not allow private companies to do it,” German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz commented on the government's decision.

    A statement released by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it has taken legal action against Mediatrix Capital Inc. because of the company’s more- than- suspicious activities concerning international forex frauds. SEC has obtained a temporary restraining order against the firm and has frozen the assets of three individuals behind the scams.

    The regulator has accused Mediatrix Capital Inc’s three patrons, Michael S. Young, Michael S. Stewart, and Bryant E. Sewall, of soliciting a trading program that has cost traders more than $125 million.

    Two weeks ahead of the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy meeting, the central bank's Beige Book said Wednesday the U.S. economy expanded at only a slight to modest pace over the past month. The Beige Book, a compilation of anecdotal evidence on economic conditions in the twelve Fed districts, noted business activity varied across the country.
