How to know if your broker is trading against you

The simple truth is that most forex and CFD brokers are trading against their clients. The details in how this is accomplished vary greatly from broker to broker. Broadly speaking, we can say there are two types of brokers: A Book brokers and B Book brokers:

    - A Book brokers may technically be trading against their clients in that they are taking the opposite side of the trade, but they generally are taking a risk neutral approach to the market and are looking to immediately offset the trade. So they are not trading against their client in spirit, only in technicality.
    - B Book brokers will choose what positions of their clients they wish to offset. As such, they are willing to take a directional position in the market, and thus may be trading against their clients in a more material way. For instance, suppose the B Book broker wants to take a long Euro position in the market. To do this, they may not offset the short Euro trades their clients have put on; rather, they will simply take the other side of these trades.

A Book and B Book brokers can both run into big problems - for themselves, and in turn, their clients - if the larger banks and brokerage firms they offset orders with no longer take positions. This risk is known as liquidity risk. We saw liquidity risk have a devastating impact on both A Book and B Book brokers when the Swiss National Bank unpegged the Swiss Franc from the Euro, resulting in a huge move in a matter of minutes.

You can ask your broker directly about their dealing desk policy. This is largely because they feel uncomfortable about admitting their status as the counterparty to your trade, and because they generally do not educate their staff in the nuances of how they operate and make money.

Leverage, overleverage and position size calculation

Leverage, overleverage and position size calculation with Nenad Kerkez

Trading is a business. When you plan to make money you always need to calculate in the risk. You can gamble in Forex market, one of the things which overleveraging is connected to. Even if you gamble in Forex Market you still have a bigger chance to win than in casino.

Some traders prefer that, but professional trading is no gambling but preserving and increasing the deposit by proper ROI (return of investment ). Today’s webinar will teach you proper leveraging, position calculation but also what can happen if you overleverage every time you make a position.

RSI Lesson - Trend Follow/Confirming Applications

The signal of overbought and oversold based on 30 and 70 are weak but can be enhanced but a divergence setup. Even this can extend further. Perhaps we should look at other approaches of using the RSI, namely the opposite.

Instead of monitoring the RSI as a range trading tool, why not look at it as a trend following tool. If the market shows abundant examples of trend continuing after a show of OB/OS signal maybe we should examine the trend following applications.

There are 2 advanced signals that they don't teach in the basics of RSI. I first encountered these techniques in the "Technical Analysis for the Trading Professional" by Constance Brown. She credits much of her knowledge to Andrew Cardwell who is a modern day guru of this technical indicator.

We had previously mentioned that when you think about when the RSI is above 70, showing overbought conditions, it is also showing bullish momentum, so in the right context, it it a bullish signal. (The right context meaning basically that it is not always going to be a bullish signal.) However, if you witness multiple failures, and then a quick attempt, it is sometimes considered a "pop". The RSI pop is something we can investigate closer, but the point is that the overbought condition sometimes suggest only a temporary pause, but signals further intent.

There are another 2 signals that help confirm the trend.

    1) A healthy bullish trend should be confirmed by the 14-period RSI staying above the 40 level. Vice versa, a healthy bearish trend should keep the RSI below 60.

    2) After a bullish trend is established, a positive reversal signal occurs when the RSI makes a lower low, but the corresponding price low does not. This suggests another swing and we can use a swing projection.
