CES 2023: Nvidia Launches RTX 4070 Ti, Ada Lovelace Mobile, GeForce Now With RTX 4080

Nvidia finally unveiled the previously unlaunched RTX 4070 Ti. It is easily the most unsurprising announcement of a next-gen GPU in modern memory, simply because Nvidia already did so in September. Now that it’s been rebranded, the GPU will hold down the fort in the upper midrange for Nvidia. It’ll be taking on the slightly more expensive AMD Radeon 7900 series GPUs. It also announced the mobile version of its latest architecture, the RTX 40-series for mobile. In addition, it announced it’s adding the RTX 4080 to its GeForce Now cloud gaming service.

AMD Confirms Vapor Chamber to Blame for Radeon 7900 XTX Overheating

This year’s high-end GPU launches have been a bit rocky. First, there was cable-gate on the Nvidia side of the fence. That was followed by junction-gate for AMD, where some of its new flagship GPUs were hitting the 110C junction temperature. This resulted in thermal throttling, increased fan speed, and some angry early adopters. Various internet sleuths dug into the issue over the holiday break, but we’ve been waiting for confirmation from AMD on the exact cause. Along with that, we’ve also been curious to hear about a possible remedy. AMD has finally confirmed what we expected: It’s an issue with the vapor chamber.AMD SVP and General Manager of the Radeon group spoke with PCWorld’s Gordon Mah Ung at CES about the ongoing controversy.

5G Smartwatches Could Launch Next Year With Qualcomm's New Modem

5G networks have delivered fast speeds and bandwidth to smartphones for years, but not to wearables. That's expected to change next year as a new Qualcomm modem will make it possible to hook your smartwatch or other wearables up to next-gen 5G mobile networks.
Qualcomm on Wednesday revealed its Snapdragon X35 modem chipset, which will connect handheld devices to 5G networks, replacing older modems that linked gadgets to slower 4G LTE. Devices will have as fast or faster connection speeds while consuming less power, which will help designers connect devices -- from wearables to mixed reality glasses -- to 5G.
