Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia.
It’s one of those capitals that travellers seem to feel the need to get in and get out – fast!
But, there is a side to Phnom Penh other than the horrible history of the killing fields and genocide museums. This is a place where over 2 and a half million people live everyday, and have stories of their own.
So lets took a look at a day in the life of Phnom Penh Cambodia:
Much of Phnom Penh is focused around the central market Psah Thom Thmey or “New Grand Market”. Here you can grab clothing, souvenirs, jewellery and of course you can check out the fascinating food market.
Asian markets are filled with noise, colour, sights and smells (both good and bad), that you just cant resist. It’s always fun to have a look for some interesting treats – would you dare try these local favourites? Yep, that is tarantula!
If markets aren’t really your thing – never fear. There are always street vendors, roaming around, ready to sell you a fresh coconut on a hot day.
Most of all, Phnom Penh is a place to go and people watch. Here you will see people from all walks of life go about their daily lives. Life that seems so distant from our own, and yet is still very similar.
