A report released by the Commerce Department on Tuesday showed a substantial increase in the size of the U.S. trade deficit in the month of September, as imports surged and exports slumped. With a jump by retail inventories partly offset by dips by manufacturing and wholesale inventories, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing U.S. business inventories crept up by slightly less than expected in the month of September. The Commerce Department said business inventories inched up by 0.1 percent in September after climbing by 0.3 percent in August.

After reporting a sharp pullback by new home sales in the U.S. in the previous month, the Commerce Department released a report on Monday showing a significant rebound by new home sales in the month of November. The Commerce Department said new home sales surged by 5.9 percent to an annual rate of 664,000 in November after plunging by 14.8 percent to a revised rate of 627,000 in October.

U.S. consumers' inflation expectations for the next three years increased sharply in December, while unemployment concerns were mixed, results of a monthly survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York showed on Monday. Median inflation expectations for the one-year horizon were unchanged at 3.0 percent but they increased to 3.0 percent from 2.6 percent for the three-year horizon.

Industrial production in the U.S. increased by much more than expected in the month of December, according to a report released by the Federal Reserve on Friday. The Fed said industrial production jumped by 0.9 percent in December after rising by a revised 0.2 percent in November.

U.S. economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2024 fell short of economist estimates, according to a report released by the Commerce Department on Thursday. The report said gross domestic product shot up by 2.3 percent in the fourth quarter after surging by 3.1 percent in the third quarter. Economists had expected GDP to jump by 2.6 percent.

First-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits fell by slightly more than expected in the week ended February 8th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Thursday. The report said initial jobless claims dipped to 213,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week's revised level of 220,000.
