Cao Yong (Chinese: 曹勇; born June 9, 1962 in Xinxian, Henan, China) is a Chinese artist whose work depicts Tibet. He spent a year alone in the mountains of Tibet, and the paintings he produced were exhibited in Beijing in early 1989. He was subsequently arrested by the Chinese Authorities with the Beijing Police burning seven of the paintings. He escaped with his fiancée Aya Goda to Japan.

Yong began painting when he was 11 years old. Due to his family background, he was considered politically questionable by the Chinese authorities. He studied for a short period with the noted artist Yu Ren who was staying briefly in Xinxian.[2] He attended Henan University and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts. Following his graduation, he took a position as Assistant Professor of Art at the University Of Tibet. He spent seven years in Tibet and spent a year living alone in mountain caves of Ali, West Tibet, so he could copy the remains of ancient Tibetan wall paintings of the Guge kingdom.[3]

In 1989, he went over to Japan after a private exhibition of Beijing. He continued producing “The Split Layer of Earth – Mount Kailas” series while he was engaged in the wall painting production of the commerce space. The notable work produced aqua fantasy of 60mx 4 m in Yokosuka Daiei in 1991 and produced dragons of 50mx 8 m in Ise Bunkamura in 1993. In 1992, he held a private exhibition in the O ART Museum of Tokyo.

In 1994, Yong went to the United States and held a private exhibition in Synchronicity Space of the New York SOHO. In 1999, he established Cao Yong Editions Inc in LA. In 2002, he produced “Freedom” in the anniversary of 911 terrorist incidents. “Free-Freedom” received Artist of the Year 2002, and received an “Outstanding Volunteer” prize and a letter of thanks from the Los Angeles Fire Department from a total of 118 stations.

Yong produced an oil painting “We The People” in commemoration of the Federal Constitution memorial day in 2005. In 2006, he was conferred the “2006 inspiration award” from the international leadership foundation (ILF).

In 2008, he produced “Voice of the East”. The painting was selected by the Olympic committee to print on china and use as a special gift for the VIP’s who attended the Olympics. Yong produced “Love without border” for the Sichuan earthquake.

Ernesto Arrisueño, Peruvian painter, was born in Lima in 1957, a time when migration to Australia was almost exclusively from Britain and Europe. In the past decade however, Australian life has been enriched by migration from many South American countries. Arrisueño studied art in Lima before completing a Bachelor of Architecture degree at Ricardo Palma University. Throughout the 1980's he exhibited widely in Peru in both individual and group exhibitions. Architectural drawing, for which he had won a number of prizes as a student, developed as a major theme in his work where figures and objects are juxtaposed with beautifully rendered building fragments. He came to Australia in 1989 and soon found success in local exhibitions. The crisp reality of Arrisueño's works creates an air of mystical calm, a world of still waters, a myriad of flowers and isolated enigmatic figures. His current work blends memories of his early years in the dry barren landscape of Peru with the new visions and traditions of his life in Australia.

PINO - Italian artist, Pino Daeni's art and canvases elicit feelings of warmth, nostalgia, love and family. His paintings are often set on vibrantly sunny beaches on the Mediterranean where he grew up. Pino (born Giuseppe Dangelico, November 8, 1939 – May 25, 2010) is noted for his exceptional ability to capture the movements and expressions of his subjects - a talent which has brought his artwork a worldwide following and private commissions to do portraits.

Trained in Italy at the Art institute of Bari, and later at Milan’s Academy of Brera, Pino perfected his skills painting nudes and figure studies heavily influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and Macchiaioli.

After establishing himself as a successful artist in his native land, Pino immigrated to the United States, seeking more artistic freedom and opportunity. He was soon discovered by the distinguished Borghi Gallery, which gave several exhibitions for him in New York and Boston.

Early Pino artwork featured soft romantic characters mostly women dressed in flowing skirts and dresses; and these caught the attention of both Dell and Zebra Book Publishers. In 1980 Zebra commissioned him to do his first book cover; his popularity grew within the literary community and he became the artist-in-demand for Zebra, Bantam, Simon, and Schuster, Harlequin, Penquin USA and Dell. To date, Pino has illustrated 3,000 books; his style has dominated the market.

Pino’s technique, his warm and exciting colors and the subtle, but simple approach to his subject, are the reasons why Pino art, his original paintings, his hand-embellished limited edition serigraphs, and his giclées are sought-after by collectors throughout the art world.

    Juan Fortuny

    Name: xavier3.jpg

Size: 91.3 KB

The name of Juan Fortuny is famous in his native Spain, and is widely known to connoisseurs of contemporary art worldwide.

A work of art signed by Fortuny is, first and foremost, a suite of details, each and every one of wich is of primary importance. A surprising and outstanding composition, fruit of long years of experirnce with colours, canvas, techniques, visits to galleries and museums.

The route that leads to Juan Fortuny today takes the traveller backwards in time, to his childhood. He was born in Badalona (Spain) a small fishing town near to Barcelona, on the 20th of April, 1939.

"I must admit that my youth was conditioned by what my parents expected of me. They wanted me to be an engineer, but I wanted to devote my life to art. But finally I ended up with 23 years old engineering." Four years later his affair with drawings, his passion, triumphed and started a new career as a painter.

Fortuny’s surrounding world, his private life, like him, is contradictory, passionate. His house reflcts on his personality. It can be completely classical, modern or even vanguardist. His home, a roomy and stately building dating back to before the Twelfth Century, is close the Montserrat Mountain, a natural park where pines and fir trees predominate. Juan Fortuny lives in constant contact with nature.

Realism is a mark of Fortuny’s work. Tidy painting, where the central theme is treated exquisitely, with care, and as if in contrast, there is the background, where the brush and stroke become freer, blending into powerful and intense chromatic abstraction.

As far as subjets go, he feels equally at ease with a floral as with a figurative subjet, with a landscape or with horses, which are his weakness. Horses galloping, horses peacefully grazing in a corral.

Fortuny has participated in exhibitions all arround the world and his work figure in very important private collections in Europe, USA, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia,...

    John Singer Sargent
    Girl Fishing 1913

    Name: Girl.jpg

Size: 97.6 KB

John Singer Sargent (January 12, 1856 – April 14, 1925) was the most successful portrait painter of his era, as well as a gifted landscape painter and watercolorist. Sargent was born in Florence, Italy to American parents.

Sargent studied in Italy and Germany, and then in Paris under Emile Auguste Carolus-Duran.
Sargent studied with Carolus-Duran, whose influence would be pivotal, from 1874-1878. Carolus-Duran's atelier was progressive, dispensing with the traditional academic approach which required careful drawing and underpainting, in favor of the alla prima method of working directly on the canvas with a loaded brush, derived from Diego Velázquez. It was an approach which relied on the proper placement of tones of paint.
