Among the underlying components of the Russell 3000 index, we saw noteworthy options trading volume today in Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR), where a total of 79,647 contracts have traded so far, representing approximately 8.0 million underlying shares. That amounts to about 41.1% of TWTR's average daily trading volume over the past month of 19.4 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $16 strike call option expiring April 01, 2016, with 10,787 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 1.1 million underlying shares of TWTR. During the spring of 2008, I often attended press conferences with Lord Mervyn King, who at the time was governor of the Bank of England. It was an exciting time. Northern Rock had just collapsed, but Lehman Brothers was alive and kicking. The global financial crisis was by many seen as an isolated housing and banking crisis. No one knew the magnitude of the turmoil that was waiting around the corner.
