The headline-hitting London dealer Steve Lazarides, who started out as Banksy’s photographer, has a new backer, the high-profile Qatari businessman and collector Wissam Al Mana. His investment— a “seven-figure sum” according to the Financial Times— will allow the street art dealer, who represents JR and Invader, to relocate his Lazarides Rathbone gallery from Fitzrovia to Mayfair. Lazarides highlights the developments in a cheeky statement, saying: “Firstly, no-one can ever pronounce the name so we’re changing it to LazInc. Secondly, we’re moving to Mayfair. We’ve spent years working from a position of isolation, and now it’s time to challenge the status quo from the inside. I can hear the shouts of ‘Sell-out!’ on the internet from here. Find out what we have planned before you dish out any hate.” Al Mana runs a family company with retail and property interests (incidentally, he is married to the singer Janet Jackson).

Andy Warhol's tribute to a thoroughly modern miss.

When she first appeared in 1959, the slender but curvaceous figure of one particular pint-sized female icon marked a revolutionary departure from the traditional baby doll, say the organisers of a show at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (10 March-18 September). But to which blonde bombshell do the scholars refer? Barbie, of course, who is “more than just a toy—she has mirrored a culture and its evolution”, the curators say. With more than 700 dolls on show, including Barbie astronaut (1965), Barbie surgeon (1973) and our favourite, Barbie presidential candidate (2000), along with works by contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol (Barbie, 1985), it’s clear that “Barbie is more than just a doll; she is a life”. But can the same be said for Ken?

Kevin O’Leary, the American television personality best known for his role on the reality tv show Shark Tank, has partnered with the Perry J. Cohen Foundation (PJCF) for a benefit photography show. Irreconcilable Images will be on view at the fifth edition of the Art Wynwood Fair in Miami opening Friday, 12 February.Although O’Leary is largely regarded as an archetypal businessman, he had his first stint behind the videocamera in the late 1980s, at a now-defunct television station. “Art and photography has always had a place in my life, side-by-side with business, like yin and yang,” O’Leary said in a press statement. The show includes original photos, many taken during his trips around the globe.
All the sales proceeds will go toward the foundation, which is named in memory of the 14-year-old son of Pamela Cohen, the director of marketing for the Art Wynwood fair, who went missing at sea in July last year. It aims to instil smart decision-making skills, including sailing safety standards, in teenagers and young people around the country.
