D.C. Punks Flasher Cruise Back Into View With a Low-Key Disco Delight

The last time we heard from Flasher, they were the tightly coiled chameleons putting the “post” in punk on their June 2018 full-length debut, Constant Image. Singer/guitarist Taylor Mulitz had emerged from the smoldering ashes of a mid-2010s Washington, D.C., scene to front a new group that retained much of the livewire intensity of his old band, Priests; even when Flasher were at their most melodic, there was still a sense of noisy chaos threatening to at any moment.

Nearly four years later, we fade in on Flasher cruising down a desert highway, sounding positively carefree. The trio that made Constant Image has been pared down to the duo of Mulitz and drummer/singer Emma Baker, and the two of them move in a whole new way on “Sideways,” the first single from their upcoming LP Love Is Yours, due out June 17. Mulitz’s and Baker’s guitars strum out a breezy disco rhythm as their vocals overlap with ease, letting the song unfold in no hurry. The time out of the spotlight sounds like it’s done them good.

Watch Foo Fighters at with Taylor Hawkins

The shocking news of Taylor Hawkins’ death is just beginning to reverberate around the world, and little is known beyond what the Foo Fighters released in their public statement. "Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family," they wrote, "and we ask that their privacy by treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time."

When Hawkins died, the Foo Fighters were in Colombia preparing to play at the Estéreo Picnic festival on the same bill as the Strokes, J. Balvin, and the Libertines. Their last gig with the drummer took place five days earlier, on March 20th at Lollapalooza Argentina. The 19-song show featured Hawkins singing lead on Queen’s "Somebody to Love," a cover of Jane’s Addiction’s "Been Caught Stealing" with special guest Perry Farrell, and a final encore of "Everlong."

The Rolling Stones Drop Previously Unreleased Live Versions

The Rolling Stones have dropped previously unreleased live versions of “Tumbling Dice” and “Hot Stuff.” The renditions will appear on Live at the El Mocambo, which arrives on May 13 via Universal Music and is currently available for preorder.

Recorded over two nights in March 1977 at Toronto’s intimate 300-capacity El Mocambo, the album includes the band’s full performance (they were billed as “The Cockroaches”) from its March 5, 1977 show alongside three bonus tracks from their show the previous evening. Mixed by Bob Clearmountain, the set comes as a double CD, a 4-LP vinyl set in black or neon, and a digital version. While a few of the songs appeared on 1977 live album Live You Live, the full set has never officially been released in its entirety.

Burna Boy has dropped a new single

Burna Boy has dropped a new single, “Last Last,” ahead of his forthcoming album, Love, Damani. The track, produced by Chopstix, features sample of Toni Braxton’s 2000 R&B hit, “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”
The Afro-fusion artist also shared a music video for the single, which he self-directed. The clip was shot at his home, among other hand-picked locations. The vibe-y, mid-tempo song finds Burna Boy reflecting on past relationships before ultimately concluding everything will be okay.
