Iconic Top 40 DJ Casey Kasem Has Passed Away

Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

Multiple sources are reporting this morning the American icon Casey Kasem has passed away at the age of 82. While famous for his Top 40 Radio countdowns, he has been at the center of a family battle that has shocked and saddened his fans in his final days and hours.

Casey Kasem is most famous for his Top 40 Radio shows where he would go over the Top 40 hits in America on a large network of stations every week. He would talk about the artists and the stories behind the songs. His trademark show American Top 40 debuted on July 4th 1970. He would continue for decades.

A Country song was included in the survey on the very first week. Ray Stevens’ Everything Is Beautiful checked in at #29 that week.

If you listen to any of the many Country countdown shows, you can thank Casey Kasem. After the success of American Top 40, Kasem created a Country version of the Top 40 showand christened it American Country Countdown. The show premiered in October of 1973 and was was hosted by comedian Don Bowman, who passed the torch to the legendary Bob Kingsley. Bob would host the show for many decades.

Casey Kasem is definitely an American icon. He did much more than radio. He was a distinguished voice actor and brought characters like Shaggy on Scooby Doo to life. He read Top 10 lists for David Letterman. He helped Jerry Lewis host the MDA Telethon for many years. We could go on and on. He will definitely be missed. We pray for peace for Casey and for his family.
