Location intelligence
The process of obtaining relevant knowledge of the relationships between spatial data, to solve a given problem is the location intelligence definition in wikipedia wikipedia. Neutral and clean, but too general. In the analyst community and the industry I would say that location intelligence applies especially to the integration of geospatial analysis with business intelligence software. It is common to define location intelligence as a business analysis tool, highlighting its business software aspect that integrates data with a geospatial component.
If we are looking at a graph with the number of customers buying toys in our stores of more than 800m2, and we decide to add a map with their location, and also compare it with the points of sale of the competition, I would call it location intelligence.
Location Analytics
Mmm, difficult. Location analytics is more of an ESRI brand than a very different discipline from the previous one, but in general it relies more on bringing business data to spatial analysis, and not the other way around, and gives more weight to cloud computing and big data technologies.
If we are analyzing the sociodemography of the areas of influence around our stores, putting it in relation to sales, developing a predictive sales model and another predictive model of locations for territorial expansion, we would be doing location analytics.
Location Based Services and Geofencing
Location Based Services (LBS) refers to services to clients who use their geographic location to generate added value, this geolocation being normally informed by the cell phone. For us the important thing is that they have a more operational than analytical aspect. They would go from map services integrated in general or specialized search engines, to applications that launch promotions to customers depending on their distance to the store. Or to the competition's store.
Geofencing, or geofencing, consists of the creation of a virtual perimeter that is applied to the location of a subject, launching alarms if it is exceeded. The first applications have been location control of children, animals, security and alarms in general, but there are combined uses with LBS. For example, to launch promotion to the client who leaves the perimeter of a shopping center without having consumed in restoration, or in leisure.
