To determine the solution distribution, several critical components are taken into account. The most important is the inlet section. Because the position of the inlet is usually in the middle of the system, the distribution of the solution will be strongly affected by this section. Although some heads will have multiple manifolds, the simplest design is a T-shaped manifold, where the bottom and top edges are parallel to the exit of the slot-die. Alternatively, the manifold may be shaped into a teardrop. This type of design smooths out the flow direction.
