    Even with the next monetary policy meeting just two weeks away, the Federal Reserve announced a surprise move to enact an emergency interest rate cut on Tuesday in response to the economic risks posed by the coronavirus outbreak. The Fed announced that it has decided to lower the target range for the federal funds rate by 50 basis points to 1 to 1-1/4 percent.

    Australia's central bank maintained its interest rate on Tuesday, as policymakers see gradual progress in inflation reaching target and towards full employment. The board of the Reserve Bank of Australia, governed by Philip Lowe, decided to leave the cash rate unchanged at a record 0.75 percent. The central bank had lowered the rate by 25 basis points in October 2019.

    New Zealand's central bank left its key interest rate unchanged after cutting the rate by 50 basis points in August. The Monetary Policy Committee of Reserve Bank of New Zealand headed by Adrian Orr, on Wednesday decided to hold the Official Cash Rate at 1.0 percent. The MPC observed that new information since August did not warrant a significant change to the monetary policy outlook.
