Food vendors at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will be going 100% vegetarian at Morrissey's forthcoming sold-out show on 1 March.
It will mark the first time stalls within and around the venue are not selling any meat products.
The singer and animal activist said: "I don't look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals."
The venue and promoter Goldenvoice will also donate a portion of the ticket sales to the UK-branch of charity Peta.
The decision came after the former Smiths singer urged the venue to close down their McDonald's outlets and to banish the sale of "flesh as food".
The 53-year-old star recently postponed a string of concerts due to a bleeding ulcer.
He resumes his US tour on 26 February with a performance on Live with Jimmy Kimmel.
It is not the first time Morrissey has asked venues hosting his gigs to take meat off the menu.
The animal rights activist walked off stage at the Coachella festival in California in 2009 after saying he could smell "burning flesh".

Beatles 'mentor' Tony Sheridan dies
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...s_1484377a.jpgSheridan played at the 50th anniversary of the legendary Hamburg Star club last year
Ringo Starr has paid tribute to Tony Sheridan, an early supporter of The Beatles, who has died aged 72.
During their early days as the Silver Beatles in Hamburg in the 1960s, they performed as Sheridan's backing band.
Starr wrote on his Twitter: "Goodbye to Tony Sheridan... I had a great month 1960-61, playing with him was great."
Described as a catalyst in the Beatles' rise to fame, they played on Sheridan's recording of My Bonnie.
After being spotted by producer Bert Kaempfert, it was their first studio session for Polydor as The Beat Brothers in June 1961.
Later that year, teenage fan Raymond Jones requested the song in Brian Epstein's record store. Epstein promised to order it and later became the Beatles' manager, whom many still regard as the "fifth Beatle".
Returning to Germany in 1961, the young Beatles and Sheridan continued their collaboration and - at Kaempfert's instigation - recorded seven tracks.
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...4_65951793.jpgThis year marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' debut album Please, Please Me
A 1962 show at the Star Club in Hamburg, where the Liverpool band played many of their early shows, was a watershed performance - featuring Starr on drums - and helped catapult the Beatles to fame.
According to reports in the German media, Sheridan died on Saturday 16 February following a long illness.
Sir Paul McCartney has issued a statement on his website. He said: "Tony was a good guy who we knew and worked with from the early days in Hamburg. We regularly watched his late night performances and admired his style. He will be missed."
In the early 1960s, the singer-songwriter toured with rock 'n roll pioneers Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.
He had German Top 10 singles Let's Slop and Skinny Minnie and with the Fab Four's early commercial success, My Bonnie charted in both Britain and the US.
During his later years, Sheridan lived with his third wife, Anna Sievers, in a farm house in the north of Germany. She died of cancer in 2011.

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...358c560b1f.jpgThe police has put up 40 hoardings carrying the Beatles' photo
Police in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta are using the picture on the cover of the iconic Beatles album Abbey Road in a campaign to enforce road safety.
The picture shows the band members walking in single file on a zebra crossing in north London's Abbey Road.
The slogan for the campaign reads: "If they can, why can't you?"
The Beatles were photographed on Abbey Road in Ian Macmillan's famous cover shot for the 1969 album.
The crossing is outside the Abbey Road studios, where the band recorded much of their music.
Calcutta's traffic police has put up 40 hoardings carrying the Beatles image as part of a campaign to persuade people to use pedestrian crossings.
"We wanted a catchy and appealing campaign, and we hit upon the idea of using the Beatles and cash in on their universal popularity. We are trying to say that if John, Paul, George and Ringo could use the zebra crossing, you can also do it," joint commissioner of traffic police Supratim Sarkar told the BBC.
"We will be able to tell after a couple of months whether the campaign worked."
Calcutta resident and musician Neel Dutt told The Telegraph newspaper that he was happy with the campaign.
"Calcutta has had a long love affair with The Beatles and if that can make people abide by rules, then nothing like it," he said.
Others were more sceptical.
"Don't waste time and money putting up these hoardings that may be understood only by elite 2% of the people, and that too not those who tend to walk on the streets too much," resident Sanjiv Kapoor wrote on Calcutta traffic police's Facebook page.
"Instead spend the money on making zebra crossings at the right places, and educating drivers and ordinary pedestrians on what they are for! If people today actually use them as shown in the photo, they will be run over before you know it!"
The original Abbey Road zebra crossing, where the photograph was taken, was moved several metres for traffic management reasons more than 30 years ago, and no original features remain.

Springsteen to play new Leeds Arena

Bruce Springsteen specially requested to play a gig at the new Leeds venue, the city council said
Rock star Bruce Springsteen is to "road test" the new Leeds Arena in July ahead of its official opening in September, Leeds City Council has revealed.
Springsteen made a "special request" to try out the 13,500-seat arena in a one-off show as part of his Wrecking Ball world tour, the council said.
The gig will take place at the new £60m city centre venue on Wednesday 24 July.
Springsteen's request to play the Arena was "unexpected but very welcome", said council leader Keith Wakefield.
'Sheer calibre'Springsteen, famous for hits such as Born To Run and Born in the USA, will be joined by his E Street band for the Leeds gig, the council confirmed.

Country singer Mindy McCready dies
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...1_mindy882.jpg
Mindy McCready performing I'm Still Here in 2010
US country singer Mindy McCready has died in a suspected suicide, according to police.
The 37-year-old died from an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound", Arkansas sheriff Marty Moss said.
Her death comes weeks after that of her boyfriend and father of one of her two sons, record producer David Wilson, whose death is being investigated.
The singer had attempted to take her own life twice before and was known to have problems with substance abuse.
The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said McCready's body would be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, adding that "the matter will be fully investigated."
She recorded five studio albums, and scored 12 hits on the US country music charts, including Ten Thousand Angels and Guys Do It All The Time.
Her sole UK chart appearance came in 1998, when Oh Romeo reached number 41.
Her fifth album, I'm Still Here, was released in 2010.
'Touched my soul'Police said they had been called to the singer's house after reports of gunshots on Sunday afternoon.
They found the body of Malinda Gayle McCready on the front porch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
TMZ reported she had shot her dog before turning the gun on herself.
After the death of her partner in January, McCready had told NBC's Dateline programme that she had "never gone through anything this painful.
"He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul."
She denied any involvement in Wilson's death.
Tributes have flooded in for the singer, with Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks saying: "Too much tragedy to overcome. RIP Mindy McCready."
Fellow country singer Carrie Underwood added: "I grew up listening to Mindy McCready... So sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them."

Drummer's flying fear disrupts tour
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...560_steveh.jpg
By Steve Holden Newsbeat reporter
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...118_travis.jpg
Blink-182's Travis Barker has announced he's skipping the band's tour in Australia due to his fear of flying.
The drummer says he's still suffering from the effects of a plane crash in 2008 which killed four people.
Barker was one of two survivors when a private plane burst into flames during an aborted take-off.
Writing on his Facebook page, he said: "I still haven't gotten over the horrific events that took place the last time I flew."
The crash killed two of his friends and he spent several months in hospital with injuries.
Fear of flyingIn a statement, all three members of Blink-182 said: "The band knew the chances of Travis overcoming his fear of flying, which was magnified after the horrible plane crash in 2008, would be a challenge, but we wanted to play for our fans in Australia nonetheless.
"The three of us tried all measures to get us all there in full form."
Barker will be replaced on the tour by Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion and Tenacious D.
Previously, Mark Hoppus had spoken about how the band juggle their international tour commitments with Barker's fear of planes.
He said: "For Travis to get over here [the UK] he takes a bus from Los Angeles to New York gets on a boat then gets on a bus and travels like that."

8 reasons Manchester is the best city in the UK
8 reasons Manchester is the best city in the UK
Writing this I kind of feel like I’m preaching to the converted, but maybe some people who don’t live in Manchester will read this and make a conscious effort to pack up their lives and relocate to what is the greatest city in the UK. Not convinced? Here’s why:
1. The Northern Quarter
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...thteapower.jpg
Cafe culture (Picture: North Tea Power) The Northern Quarter of our fair city has become a thriving hub for creativity and successful independent ventures. From humble beginnings on Thomas St and Tib St the NQ has expanded to its outermost boundaries, and a bit beyond. Cafe culture is embodied by ventures such at North Tea Power, Takk and KoffeePot.
Affleck’s Palace is still going strong and is surrounded by a healthy culture of vintage clothing and up-cycling. Soup Kitchen, Kosmonaut and 2022NQ mix art, music, food, drink and culture exceptionally well, and the old guard of Matt & Phred’s, Night & Day and Dry Bar continue to support live music in the city every night of the week.
2. The Industrial Evolution
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...4/graphene.png
Graphene – Made in Manchester (Picture: YouTube) Manchester is renowned as being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in Britain and subsequently Europe and the world. The transition from hand-made to machine-powered saw an unprecedented explosion of new ideas and inventions creating an increasingly industrial and urbanised country.
Since then manufacturing in Manchester has constantly evolved. Presently we’re seeing a shift into more advanced manufacturing, such as the Nobel Prize winning graphene and The University of Manchester’s development of quantum dots.
3. The economy
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...p=1#038;h=1024
Volta: A quality of life. West Didsbury South Manchester (Picture: supplied) Second city? In terms of cash, if that’s what floats your boat, there’s no contest. Manchester is the fastest growing British economy outside of London with a GDP of £28billion and home to over 2,000 foreign enterprises.
In terms of everything else, I’d say it comes first: cost of living and quality of life are two phrases that frighten the hell out of our southern counterparts. Just mention a seven-minute commute, with a seat, for £2.40 return, or a house by a park with off road parking – on a single salary – and watch their heads spin. West Didsbury is 15 minutes from town and this leafy area is worlds apart from the city centre, life here is good.
4. The creativity
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...heoldwoman.jpg
The Old Woman at MIF (Picture: supplied) Manchester has a vast concentration of design and creative agencies featuring some of the UK’s biggest and best. The art and cultural ecology of the city has risen exponentially and globally renowned event MIF (The Manchester International Festival) brings unique acts, experiences, collaborations and artists to the city bi-annually. Independently funded venues such as Kraak Gallery, Islington Mill and Paper Gallery host pop-up exhibitions, events and experiences monthly. The presence of ITV, BBC and Arts Council England further establishes Manchester as a media and creative force.
Manchester Art Gallery, The John Ryland’s Library, The Museum of Science & Industry, The Imperial War Museum, The Lowry, The People’s History Museum, Manchester Museum (the list goes on) and events such as Buy Art Fair and the Contemporary Craft Fair are unrivalled outside of London.
5. The science
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...op=1#038;h=632
University of Manchester (Picture: Google Maps) As touched upon previously, Manchester has a wealth of scientific history and indeed history in the making. Renowned chemist and physicist John Daulton developed atomic theory here, and changed the face of science as we know it. Alan Turing was working at Manchester University when he invented The Manchester Mark 1, one of the earliest stored-program computers, after publishing a 1936 paper on a theoretical ‘universal computing machine’. Now graphene and quantom dots – both award-winning materials developed by The University of Manchester – are changing the world again.
6. The music
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...p=1#038;h=1000
John Cooper Clarke with his Poet Laureate award at the Q Awards (Picture: PA Wire) Probably the easiest part of this article. I’ll start with name dropping bands such as Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths, going back to The Hacienda days we move on to New Order, Joy Division, Tony Wilson, Peter Hook. If we want to talk about individuals and not just bands we’ve got Ian Brown, Liam Gallagher, Morrissey and Ian Curtis (I’m of course including a bit of our neighbouring Salford in here for good measure).
My personal favourite Manchester music aficionado, John Cooper Clarke, recently grabbed a spot on BBC 6 Music and has had one of his poems covered amazingly by Arctic Monkeys (Sheffield not Manc) – the man is a legend.
But it’s not all nostalgia and heritage, Dutch Uncles, Delphic, EverythingEverything and Manchester’s phenomenal export Elbow (who have their own ale by the way) are trail blazing the UK and global music scene. Just Google ‘Manchester bands’ and check out the Wiki page – the list is unreal and it grows daily.
7. The food
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...esterhouse.jpg
The foodie scene has exploded (Picture: Manchester House) Dining has exploded in Manchester over recent years. Independent food ventures such as Almost Famous have brought a new experience to eating out. The Manchester Food & Drink Festival is now a firm calendar favourite and more events are happening year on year. Manchester has yet to get its Michelin Star but it’s only a matter of time, with Aiden Byrne at Manchester House, Simon Rogan at Mr Coopers and The French, and Mary-Ellen McTague at Aumbry.
8. The nights out
http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/...ningfields.jpg
Spinningfields (Picture: supplied) Manchester has an after-work Thursday culture like I’ve never seen. Any event, any social meet up, any launch is taken as a welcome excuse to do something post-work Thursday/pre-work Friday. Spinningfields has probably capitalised on this the most, with an array of unique bars and restaurants nestled amongst the glass fronted offices, high in tower blocks, under shops and even in a 100-year-old shed. The NQ is home to an impressive amount of independent watering holes offering everything from ales and lagers in Port Street Beer House to Zombies in Hula (ask at the bar) or wine by the bottle and cheese by the board at Bakerie.
8a. It’s great!
In short, Manchester is a renowned city of firsts and probably the best city in the UK. Not only that but it was also recently voted one of the best places in the world to live by Lonely Planet.

Messaging app allows you to communicate via song
A music messaging app that enables people to communicate with song clips launched on Thursday in a bid to capitalise on the growing popularity of messaging apps and throw a lifeline to the struggling music industry.
MSTY, an acronym for My Song To You, allows users to send each other 30-second segments of songs, from Happy Birthday to the latest chart-topper, combined with a photo and text.
The UK-based company has launched the app in 155 countries with a catalogue of 2,000 song clips, cut down to the most meaningful 30 seconds by humans rather than the computer algorithms that create previews on services such as iTunes. The songs are curated into playlists by mood or genre such as flirt, celebrate, sport, pop hits and seventies music.
It claims to be the first dedicated legal music messaging app.
"It's absolutely bonkers that this does not already exist," said founder and CEO Grant Bovey, who previously started and ran Imagine Homes, the prominent buy-to-let property company that went bust in 2009.
"People have always utilised music in a very powerful way, from film and television to advertising. Why can't you send that emotion in a message? It seems very obvious."
A handful of similar messaging apps do exist – such as La-La (which sends whole songs, not clips with pictures and words) and Rithm (which charges users for certain functions) – but MSTY is one of the few that combines images and text with human-curated short music clips that are legally sourced directly from the record labels.

How to import Spotify songs into Apple Music: Move to Apple Music
Move to Apple Music is one of the best solutions for importing your Spotify collection (or Rdio, for that matter) to Apple Music mainly because of its simplicity compared to similar apps. Although with this being said, if you’re unwilling to part with $7.99 (around £5-6) for the app, you’re limited to a maximum of 15 songs. If you do take the plunge, here’s how to move songs and playlists from Spotify to Apple Music:
1) Head to the Move to Apple Music website and download the software. From the site, you can either pay up front for the software or download a trial that can be turned into the full version once you’ve imported your sample of 15 songs. Once the app is downloaded, copy it to the Applications folder on your Mac and open it.

Iceland Airwaves festival day three – Thunderpussy bring the boogie, King the glorious sonics
Iceland Airwaves festival day three – Thunderpussy bring the boogie, King the glorious sonics
A gloriously old fashioned dose of early 70s hard rock provided one of the highlights of the festival so far

“Welcome to Iceland,” Jóhannesson says, standing before us with the First Lady, Eliza Reid, in the grand drawing room of their house, which just happens to be white. He starts talking about the “Icelandic music scenery”, and how much Airwaves has done for the local economy. He even reads out some quotes from the world’s press, about how it’s “the hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar” (courtesy of David Fricke of Rolling Stone, who is here), and how this year’s one “starts in a toilet”, a reference by yours truly to John Lydon’s inaugural address on day one at the converted public convenience that is the Icelandic Museum of Punk. He proposes a toast to “music, cooperation, and having fun” and tells us to either “clap or rattle our jewellery”. You can’t imagine Theresa May opening the Great Escape with a John Lennon gag.

From the president to King. When I wrote about these three Los Angelenos back in 2012, they seemed mired, in the best possible way, in the 70s celestial soul of Minnie Riperton and her Rotary Connection. Tonight, they appear to have moved on a decade, the sound coming from Paris Strother’s panoply of keyboards and computers evoking the shimmering R&B of super-producers Jam and Lewis. It’s a very mid-80s electronic soul sound, with none of the murk or rhythmic idiosyncrasy of today’s avant-R&B. The actual songwriting could do with a bit of oomphing up – that’s an Icelandic phrase – but the sweetness of their female attitude, their dovetailing harmonies and the actual sonics are glorious.

Watch Feist Rumbl Video
Feist duels her doppelgänger beneath a bridge in the captivating new video for "Century." The song appears on her most recent album, Pleasure. The clip also features a cameo from former Pulp singer, Jarvis Cocker.

The Scott Cudmore-directed clip recalls the Jets vs. Sharks rumbles in West Side Story, with Feist and her lookalike circling each other and singing the "Century" lyrics like jabs. Eventually, two rival crews converge around them, pumping their shoulders and snapping their fingers menacingly until a full brawl breaks out. In the middle of the big closing dance routine, Cocker appears in a black turtle neck, reciting a poem about time.
