A Bunch Of Hacked Twitter Accounts Tweeted Swastikas And Turkish Propaganda

Late last night, hackers took over hundreds of prominent Twitter accounts and started pushing tweets in Turkish that accused Holland and Germany of being Nazis. The hackers accessed the accounts, which include Forbes, Reuters Japan, Nike Spain, Starbucks Argentina, Duke University, through a third party app called the Counter, according to Gizmodo.

A translation of the above tweet reads: "#nazigermany #nazinetherlands this is a little #ottomanslap see you on #april16 what did I write? LEARN Turkish."

After a failed coup against him in 2016, Turkey's Erdogan is campaigning for an April 16 referendum that would rewrite parts of Turkey's constitution. Erdogan's critics say he's trying to consolidate power amidst a crackdown, and he's been publicly feuding with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and German chancellor Angela Merkel over the referendum. Both countries have tried to block his attempts to campaign with expat Turks in the Netherlands and Germany.

Twitter said in a statement that it was aware of the hack and had responded: "Our teams worked at pace and took direct action. We quickly located the source which was limited to a third party app. We removed its permissions immediately. No additional accounts are impacted."

    AP/Mark Lennihan

The personal information of tens of thousands of customers of Saks Fifth Avenue has been publicly available in plain text online, BuzzFeed News has learned.

The online shopping site for the brand is maintained by the digital division of its owner, the Canada-based Hudson's Bay Company. Until recently, unencrypted, publicly accessible web pages on the site contained tens of thousands of records for customers who signed up for wait lists to buy products. The records included email addresses and product codes for the items customers expressed interest in buying; some also contained phone numbers. Each record also included a date and time, and one of a handful of recurring IP addresses.

The pages, which were reviewed by BuzzFeed News in recent days, were taken offline after HBC was contacted for comment on this story. The Saks website also serves logged in customers some pages over unencrypted connections, leaving online shoppers' information vulnerable to hackers while they browse the site on an open Wifi network.

WASHINGTON - Prosecutors are extracting data from more than 100 locked cell phones seized during arrests in downtown Washington, DC, on President Trump's Inauguration Day, according to court papers prosecutors filed on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said they had search warrants to pull data from the phones, which were taken from individuals arrested on Inauguration Day, including some who were not indicted. All of the phones were locked, according to the government, "which requires more time-sensitive efforts to try to obtain the data." But the filing appeared to indicate that they were successful in accessing information on the phones.

Scam Calls Are The Devil, So Phone Carriers Are Doing More To Block Them

T-Mobile said today that it will start labeling scam calls in caller ID.

In a statement, T-Mobile told BuzzFeed News the filtering technology works by comparing an incoming call to a "database of tens of thousands of known scammer numbers" and analyzing how people typically respond to the number. If identified as a possible scam, the number will identify the caller as "Scam Likely" on the phone's screen.

T-Mobile users will also be able to opt into complete scam call blocking by dialing #ONB# (#662), which won't allow any calls labeled as possible scams to go through. The technology is launching on April 5. Scam calls affect 75% of Americans and collectively cost consumers half a billion dollars, according to T-Mobile estimates.
T-Mobile said these calls come in myriad forms, "from IRS scam to Medicare cons to 'free' travel to credit card scams," according to its press release. The company is specifically targeting automated calls that ping thousands of customers per minute.
