Intel Is Offering CPUs to Winners of Arc GPU Scavenger Hunt
https://www.extremetech.com/wp-conte...AM-640x360.png
Back in 2021, Intel ran a marketing campaign for its upcoming Arc graphics cards. It involved a scavenger hunt, and the prize was that you’d get an Arc GPU before they officially launched. Intel offered 300 of the GPUs, and winners were eventually selected. Of the 300 winners, 100 would receive the grand prize, and 200 would get the first-place prize. The company had stated the grand prize was worth $900, and the first prize was valued at $700. Now in late 2022, Intel is seemingly not able to cough up the GPUs. Instead, it’s offering winners an Alder Lake CPU instead. This gives us some visibility into Intel’s launch timeline, as well as expected prices for Arc GPUs.

GPUs Likely to Reach Pricing Nadir in a Few Weeks
https://www.extremetech.com/wp-conte...ze-640x353.jpg
Shakespeare himself posed the age-old question: to buy, or not to buy? That’s the question gamers the world over are wrestling with. GPU prices are plummeting, and the market is now a bargain basement free-for-all. EVGA is offering anywhere from $600 to $800 off its stock of RTX 3090 Tis. Newegg is selling Radeon RX 6900 XTs for just $699. It’s enough to make an FPS-starved gamer shed a single tear thinking of prices from just a few months ago. However, as a savvy follower of the news, you’re aware of the impending arrival of next-gen GPUs from AMD and Nvidia (and um…Intel). When will prices reach their absolute, rock-bottom lowest? That time may be just around the corner. If you’re in the market for an RDNA 2 or RTX 30-series GPU, just be patient.

Subscribers on the company’s RTX 3080 plan can now stream games at 1440p and 120fps right from Chrome or Edge.

Intel Addresses Questions About Its GPU Drivers, DX11 Support
https://www.extremetech.com/wp-conte...rc-640x360.jpg
As the launch of Intel’s Arc GPUs draws closer, the company is trying to get out in front of some bad press it’s received lately. Although the only GPU currently available is the low-end A380, several reviews of it in the US media have panned the card’s GPU drivers, issues with the recommended use of resizable BAR, and its lack of DX11 support. Intel’s Lisa Pearce, Vice President and General Manager for the Visual Compute Group, tackles these problems and more in a new blog post. In the post, she admits the company has had a “bumpy” ride thus far, but she says Intel is working hard to ensure a smooth launch.

It's been five years since Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi was released, and writer-director Rian Johnson says he's "even more proud of it" now.
"I think it's impossible for any of us to approach Star Wars without thinking about it as a myth that we were raised with, and how that myth, that story, baked itself into us and affected us," Johnson told Empire during an interview to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the film's release. "Ultimately, I hope the film is an affirmation of the power of the myth of Star Wars in our lives."

Intel Says It’s Committed to Discrete Graphics Despite Rocky Arc Rollout
https://www.extremetech.com/wp-conte...PM-640x360.png
A lot of press attention has been rightly focused on Intel’s long-awaited launch of its Arc discrete GPUs. As you are well aware, there have been many delays, and now that it’s September we still don’t have a firm launch date, pricing, or any specific information on its high-end GPUs. The company had previously stated these GPUs would launch “later this summer,” which is precisely now. The constant delays along with the underwhelming first GPU to launch — the Arc A380 — even caused industry heavyweight Jon Peddie to advise Intel to abandon its fledgling effort to stop the bleeding. In response, Intel has now gone on the record saying its discrete GPU program is not going anywhere.
