Google Releases Very Limited Beta of Android Games on Windows
https://www.extremetech.com/wp-conte...ws-640x353.jpg
The smartphone wars were won by apps. That’s why we’re all using Android and iOS phones rather than Palm and BlackBerry. The number of apps on those platforms doesn’t matter as much these days — it’s more than enough. Now, some of Android’s enormous app catalog is destined for Windows. Microsoft has its Android framework in Windows 11, but Google is not going to be outdone. It’s launching an early beta of Google Play Games, which will bring mobile games to Windows PCs… eventually. OLED panels are known for their perfect blacks and high contrast, but cost and burn-in have mostly kept them out of the PC gaming space, until now. Given these panels’ high cost compared to the LCDs we currently use, we speculated back in January that the Alienware monitor would easily eclipse $2,000, but Alienware has put those fears to rest by announcing a surprisingly low $1,300 MSRP. Although that’s not chump change, it’s the first high-end gaming OLED that doesn’t have an outrageous price tag.

Game consoles don’t last forever, and the same goes for the online services to which they connect. If you’ve got an aging Nintendo 3DS or Wii U that you’re nursing along, this might be your last chance to grab digital content for them. Nintendo has announced it will sunset the eShops for both these devices in March 2023. The shutdown is phased and will start long before that when Nintendo stops accepting new funds for eShop accounts later this year. When the Wii U store goes down, that will also mean the end for Nintendo’s beloved Virtual Console.

Sea scorpions don't exist anymore, a fact you might be grateful to learn since land scorpions don't have a friendly reputation. Researchers investigated a fossil that had been kicking around for years at the Queensland Museum in Australia and found it belongs to an intimidating group of predators that are long extinct.
In a statement on Friday, the museum described the sea scorpion as a "massive monster" that likely topped 3 feet (1 meter) in length. It lived in lakes or rivers around what is now the Australian town of Theodore. It's the first sea scorpion fossil to be identified in Queensland.
