Fitbit Gets FDA Clearance for AFib Detection Feature

Fitbit has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its atrial fibrillation detection algorithm, Google said Monday.
The technology, which Google says will be coming soon to a range of heart-rate-enabled devices, passively assesses your heartbeat rhythm. If it comes across anything that suggests AFib, it will then alert you through the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications feature.
Google earned clearance for the AFib-detecting technology partly because of a 2020 Heart Study which monitored over 455,000 participants for five months. The study found that Fitbit detected and correctly identified AFib episodes 98% of the time, when compared to ECG patch monitors.

    AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Review

Today, AMD is launching its Ryzen 7 5800X3D eight-core CPU at $449. The new chip is both a straightforward improvement over the 5800X and a bigger deal than it might seem. The “3D” in the model name refers to the additional 64MB of vertically-mounted L3 cache (V-Cache) that AMD has attached on top of the CPU die. The new chip features 96MB of L3 cache in total and a slightly lower clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X. Overall, AMD is claiming a 15 percent improvement in gaming.

The 5800X3D is an interesting CPU. It provides the additional oomph that AMD promised in both games and also in some applications, though there’s no way to predict which games and apps will benefit until you test them. It also gives AMD a real argument that it offers the fastest gaming CPU, with the caveat that we have not been offered the opportunity to test the Core i9-12900KS.

Nvidia Says Its RTX 30-Series GPUs are ‘Restocked and Reloaded’

Note the date and tell your offspring about it someday: April 15th is the day Nvidia GPUs were in stock, finally. The company has launched a “restocked and reloaded” marketing campaign to let people know about it too. Not only are a lot of cards in stock right now, but some of them are even being offered at a discounted price. We promise this is not a late April Fool’s prank.

    Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 a Low-Cost 2-in-1 Chromebook for Students

Samsung announced the US availability of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 on Friday. First announced at the end of March in the UK, the two-in-one is a successor of sorts to one of the company's best Chromebooks, the Chromebook Plus V2 (it's actually still available, despite being released in 2018). The Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 was designed with students in mind, Samsung said in its announcement.

Rumor: Intel Arc Desktop GPUs Possibly Delayed to Q3

In news that is both surprising and yet completely unsurprising at the same time, Intel may be delaying its highly anticipated desktop GPUs. As you may recall, at the end of its recent launch of the mobile version it released a teaser for its desktop card. The text just said “Summer 2022” which predicts a vague June – August timeline. The latest leaks now say the cards might either arrive at the tail end of that window or be pushed back to Q3.

Nvidia to Crank Power up to 600W on The RTX 4090, 375W For Pro Cards

Nvidia will reportedly be taking a no holds barred approach with its upcoming AD102 “Ada Lovelace” die. We’ve previously reported on the insane power requirements that are rumored for Nvidia’s next-gen GPUs, but Moore’s Law is Dead on YouTube says they are confirmed based on discussing the topic with system integrators and OEMs. These companies are already planning upcoming systems based on the RTX 4090 GPU, which is due to launch in Q3. In addition to cranking its consumer GPUs to 11, the company will also be raising the power limit for professional cards too.

Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD Is Fast, Rugged and the Size of a Credit Card

For the new T7 Shield portable SSD, Samsung took its speedy T7 model and cranked up the durability so you can drop it, step on it, get it wet and dusty, and it will still read and write at speeds up to 10Gbps. The drive has the footprint of a credit card and weighs only 3.3 ounces (94 grams), but its aluminum housing and nonslip rubber casing help it survive drops from up to 3 meters (9.8 feet), and it's IP65-certified for dust and water resistance.

Some GPUs Now Being Sold at MSRP

Just a few weeks ago, we noted GPUs were finally in-stock. At the time, Nvidia had launched a promotion advertising a new “restocked” event. Unlike a lot of marketing events, this one actually delivered because GPUs were available for purchase. However, not all of them were at MSRP, so it was a baby step of progress. Now that we’re in the month of May, things are continuing to improve. Glancing around a variety of e-commerce sites we see GPUs both in-stock and at MSRP, depending on the model. This is a huge development as it mostly marks the end of the Great GPU Shortage of the Pandemic (GGSP). At least, it seems to be over for the expensive cards. Midrange cards are still difficult to acquire.
Right now, if you want a high-end GPU, chances are you can find one that’s not outrageously priced.
