Newly Updated Steam App Lets You Start Remote Downloads to Your PC

Valve has offered mobile apps on Android and iOS since the early days of the smartphone era, and it’s barely improved the apps since then. That’s changing at last with a complete revamp for the Steam Mobile app. The new version, now live on both platforms, has a more functional design, additional login options, and the ability to remotely install games on your PC.

Instagram Testing Profile Song Feature Internally

Is it a throwback or the future of social media? Instagram is testing out a new internal feature that would enable users to add a song to their profiles. Tech leaker and developer Alessandro Paluzzi first shared the news on Twitter on Monday, igniting nostalgic comparisons to MySpace. However, the feature "is an internal prototype, and not testing externally," said Meta spokesperson Christine Pai in an email statement.

Valve May Soon Introduce Peer-to-Peer Steam Downloads Across LAN

PC gamers almost never use game discs anymore with all the sources for downloadable titles, but what if you didn’t have to download them every time? Code from the latest beta builds of the desktop Steam client points to an upcoming feature that would let you move game files from one device to another on your network, potentially saving you a ton of time and bandwidth. You can tinker with this feature now, but be warned, it’s still very early in development.

Some Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB GPUs Cost Almost as Much as an RTX 4090

With the pandemic winding down and crypto mining all but dead, gamers thought it might once again be easy to buy a high-end GPU. And, maybe prices would be reasonable, too. As it turns out, we were wrong about both of those situations.

As RTX 4080 Scalpers Struggle To Sell Their Cards, Newegg Halts Refunds

It’s time to bust out that tiny violin you’ve been saving for special occasions. It turns out the poor reception of the $1,200 RTX 4080 has resulted in some collateral damage: Scalpers are now stuck with loads of GPUs. It’s apparently so bad that Newegg has stopped offering refunds for the cards, causing some scalpers to graciously offer the cards for MSRP, according to Moore’s Law is Dead (via Videocardz). It seems the holiday spirit is still alive and well after all.

Crisis Core Reunion Marries a Final Fantasy 7 Classic With Its Remake

Final Fantasy 7 fans got ready to eat well in the mid-noughties, as developer Square Enix released several spinoffs expanding the universe of the legendary 1997 PlayStation RPG. Unfortunately, most of the new stories -- like PS2 shooter Dirge of Cerberus and CGI movie Advent Children -- turned to be fast food next to the delicious and nutritious meal that was Final Fantasy 7.

AMD Investigating Overheating Radeon 7900 Reference Boards

Though AMD’s all-new Radeon 7900 series cards have been relatively well received by the gaming public, all the news about them post-launch has been surprisingly negative. Reports have already surfaced of broken shader prefetch hardware in some cards using early silicon, which AMD has said isn’t a thing, and now German site Hardwareluxx has received numerous reports of Radeon 7900 XTX cards overheating in its forums. There are apparently enough reports that it got AMD’s attention, as the company says it’s investigating the issue.

Samsung Odyssey Gaming Monitors Go Double UHD, QD-OLED and More

CES is when gaming monitor companies bring out the big guns -- and few are bigger than the new 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9, a curved, DisplayHDR 1000 model. Teased by AMD during its RX 7000-series GPU launch in November as the first monitor announced with DisplayPort 2.1 support, the Neo G9 has 7,680x2,160 resolution. The high resolution plus HDR and fast 240Hz refresh rate make the high-bandwidth DP 2.1 essential, even though it's not a full 8K (it's a 32:9 aspect ratio).
